Unlike his musclebound beefy action star peers of the 1980s and 90s, what made Axel Foley an entertaining and enduring character for Eddie Murphy was his riffing eloquence with all matters of verbal communication. The fast talker was the best bullshitter in the business. As long as Murphy could resummon that fluent tempo in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F– that crass, disarming, and profanity-soaked gift of gab– and keep it with some stamina for another lavish action comedy, all that was necessary would be fulfilled. Well, queue the popular wrestling crowd chant, because he’s still got it… and then some!

MOVIE REVIEW: 7500

There’s just something about “bottle movies” that elevate tension a step or two better than films grander, louder, or flashier sometimes. Their draw comes from the mental mystery of the given confinements, and you don’t have to be a claustrophobe to feel that anxiety. It’s about the imagined suggestions one makes to visualize what they cannot see beyond the setting’s boundaries. Oftentimes our minds paint it worse than it actually is, and that is more than enough to get the pulse rate going oh so very well. The new Amazon streaming film 7500 joins those ranks as a choice little carafe of collywobbles.

ADVANCE MOVIE REVIEW: The Walk

The definition of "marvel" can be given as a noun or a verb.  As a noun, it means "something that causes wonder, admiration, or astonishment."  When used as a verb, marvel means "to wonder of be curious about."  Several aspects about the true story behind "The Walk" spell out both definitions of marvel.  Just hearing about the daredevil feat orchestrated by Frenchman Philippe Petit, walking for an hour on a high-wire 110 stories up across the former twin towers of the World Trade Center, evokes a "He did what?!" head-turning reaction where you acknowledge the wonderment and want to learn more.  While not perfect, "The Walk" astonishes enough visually bringing this historic stunt to life to captivate movie-going audiences.

MOVIE REVIEW: Sin City: A Dame to Kill For

After taking in "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For," the second collaboration between legendary graphic novel creator Frank Miller and virtuoso technical filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, I feel like coining a new term.  "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" is a "genre-buster," meaning that it is a film that pushes far beyond the boundaries of its generally assigned category.  In my opinion, to be a genre-buster, you have to break the confinements of at least three genres.  Two isn't enough.  Two is an "action comedy," "romantic fantasy," or etc. and those are plain as day and too easy.  You've got to mix three and do it well.
