MEDIA APPEARANCE: Interview in Bored Panda for Unrealistic Movie Moments

I was recently approached by Bored Panda for an interview opportunity to offer some expertise as a film critic for a piece they were doing on unrealistic movie moments. For the piece written by Adelaide Ross and Vikrorija Ošikaitė, the crux was identifying common movie moments and specific scenes that did not happen realistically and whether or not they took me out of the movie or if I had a hard time taking their seriously. Playing the school teacher card, my answers ended up being about the depiction of teachers and schools in movies.

I've been overdue advertising this on behalf of my film critic peer Caillou Pettis. It’s great getting to talk to good friends! This week, I was invited to join fellow film critic and longtime collaborator Aaron White on an FF+ episode of the Feelin’ Film Podcast. This show opens with Aaron’s spot-on review of Thor: Love and Thunder and a disc release review of the 4K Edge of Tomorrow hitting store shelves July 5th. I join Aaron for the third and closing segment. With 2022 halfway over, he and I recapping our favorites from the first half of the year while gazing down the calendar to the upcoming releases we are looking forward to the most from July through December to close 2022.

MEDIA APPEARANCE: Guest for "Feelin' Film" FF+ Alternate Oscars 2016 Discussion

This week, I was invited for a very different selection show with the Feelin’ Film Podcast compared to our legendary movie drafts. Fellow awards-voting critic member Aaron White floated me the idea to experiment with legacy and memory to re-vote on previous Oscars, starting with the films of 2016 from five years ago. To be a tiebreaker, we are joined by Tomatometer-approved critic Kevin Brackett of the Reel Spoilers Podcast to fight for the likes of Moonlight, La La Land, Fences, Arrival, Hell or High Water, Jackie, A Monster Calls, Your Name. and more.

If cannot tell already after nearly 50 episodes of the Cinephile Hissy Fit podcast that I co-host, Will Johnson is the big personality and the star of the show. Sure, I may cuss more and have a few more credentials and feathers in my film critic hat, but Will is the beating heart of our show. He was highlighted to show that very power this week with an interview in the Phoenix New Times written by Ashley Naftule.

This week, I could not have been more stoked to see the return of movie drafts from the Feelin’ Film Podcast! This one presented the massive challenge of selecting a collection of the best or most appealing sports movies in seven different categories. The four competitors were Feelin’ Film hosts Aaron White and Patrick Hicks, Cinematic Underdogs Podcast co-host Paul Keelan, and myself. As a veteran of two previous Feelin’ Film drafts, I came to win, and I think I crushed it. Listen for our banter and picks and vote for the winner in the Feelin’ Film Facebook Group and Twitter.

It’s been a big personal favorite of mine for a long time and one I advertise and endorse heavily in social circles. The three of us muse on the implications and themes that come with the movie’s pendulum of unity and conflict between science and faith. Enjoy!
