Unlike Sean Penn’s iconic Jeff Spicoli, I was righteously un-stoned but still happy to join Ian Simmons dive into the “Criterion Cove” pool for his Kicking the Seat YouTube podcast. He and I climb in and out of that pool in our own Zoom call red bikinis to bow upon the altar of Mr. Hand and all the derelicts of Amy Heckerling’s 1981 seminal classic Fast Times at Ridgemont High. I was a little late to this week’s “Midweek Mischief” panel of “Earth’s Mightiest Critics” hosted by Ian Simmons of the Kicking the Seat podcast and the matching YouTube channel. However, the buzz and intrigue is all there in just the second episode of Marvel’s Loki playing on Disney+. If last week was the merely the introduction to the weirdness and intrigue, this new head-spinning episode announces those two traits even greater. BIG NEWS! Flying the 25YL flag, I’m stunned and proud altogether to be a newly accepted member of the Critics Choice Association, hosts of the annual Critics Choice Awards! Formerly the Broadcast Film Critics Association and founded in 1995, they are national-level organization of film and TV critics and a recognized awards-voting body. Their criteria for internet-based folks like me was "internet critics whose reviews are read by a large enough audience, are easily accessible on their site, and identified as the site's primary critic. That’s me alright.

MEDIA APPEARANCE: Guest on the "Cinematic Underdogs" podcast talking "Slap Shot"

Through mutual social circles within the Facebook group of the Feelin’ Film Podcast, I was approached by Paul Keelan, one of the hosts of the Cinematic Underdogs podcast, to be a guest on their program. Joined by Jordan Puga, they’ve been targeting sports films for extended conversations. They pitched me to talk about Bennett Miller’s 2011 gem Moneyball, continuing a streak of behind-the-scenes sports movies. Talking with Paul as the “bonus episode” following the main show, our conversation went on to cover film criticism tropes, my hot take of The Tree of Life, and eventually, as planned, our impressions and musings on Moneyball.
