4 Amazing Girl Boss Movies To Check Out

by Kevin Gardner

When you want to be empowered and entertained, few things are better than a girl boss movie. So, here are four amazing girl boss movies to check out.

1. The Parent Trap

While The Parent Trap may not be the most conventional girl boss movie, it certainly leaves women feeling powerful and confident. For one thing, the movie is about two young women pulling off an elaborate heist. Also, it features a mother who runs a successful and famous bridal fashion brand. If you're unfamiliar with the movie, it centers around two twins who, having not known about each other, accidentally meet at summer camp. Afterward, the two decide to switch. This results in the mother and father being forced to reunite. While the movie's father is certainly a likable and confident man, it's the women who really run the show. It's also notable that, unlike other romantic comedies, the successful businesswoman is good. She doesn't have to change. Not to mention that the dad lives at a winery! By the end, you'll have had your fill of wine cellar glass doors and grape fields.

2. The Devil Wears Prada

If you're looking for a girl boss movie, look no further than The Devil Wears Prada. This movie has it all - Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, women in power, makeovers, amazing fashion and (of course) Stanley Tucci. The film revolves around a young college graduate who wants to become a journalist. In the meantime, she takes a job as the junior personal assistant of Miranda Priestly (the editor-in-chief of the most powerful fashion magazine in the nation). At first, the new assistant wasn't interested in fashion at all. However, her time with Priestly starts turning her into a fashion monster. While it could be said that the movie demonizes powerful women, that's certainly not the takeaway. In the end, the hero becomes nicer while retaining her business skills. Throughout the entire movie, you get to bask in the glow of powerful women. If you haven't seen The Devil Wears Prada yet, be sure to watch it soon!

3. The Princess Diaries Series

The Princess Diaries series portrays a girl boss in a unique field - royalty. While this may not be relatable to most people, it's certainly empowering to watch. Plus, it stars Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews. What more can you ask for? The first Princess Diaries movie focuses on an unpopular schoolgirl named Mia. Although she's smart and capable, she isn't the most refined person ever. Suddenly, her grandmother visits and reveals a secret - she's a princess. Mia is thrust into the world of royalty with only minimal training. While she doesn't think she can accept the position, Mia eventually realizes that she's ready. In the second movie, Mia's kingdom tries to force her to get married. This is due to an old and sexist law. Despite having little to no experience in the kingdom, Mia is able to solve this issue and rule by herself. If you want to laugh, cry and feel like a queen, this is an excellent series to try. Not to mention that it features Julie Andrews mattress surfing!

4. Ocean's Eight

If you want a more intense girl boss movie, you may want to check out Ocean's Eight. This movie is based on the Ocean's Eleven series, which is a trio of movies starring George Clooney. The original series focuses on a group of men that pull off elaborate heists. Similar to The Sting, the movies were famous for having double twists and tricking the audience. Although the series was certainly charming and fun to watch, it had an extreme lack of powerful women. Only one was featured in the whole series! Because of this, Ocean's Eight took the original concept and flipped the main gender. The film stars eight iconic women - Cate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway (the queen of girl boss movies), Helena Bonham Carter, Rihanna, Awkwafina, Mindy Kahling and Sarah Paulson. These amazing women team up and get things done.

When it comes to girl boss movies, it's hard to go wrong. Choose a flick and enjoy feeling empowered!
