All You Need to Know About 2014 Movie Drive Hard

Set in Queensland, Australia, Drive Hard was initially written for Jean-Claude Van Damme. The directors, led by Brian Trenchard-Smith, had to rework the entire script and bring in new faces. That's where the idea of casting John Cusack and Thomas Jane as lead actors came in. And they surely didn't disappoint.

The movie received limited theatrical and wide home video distribution in the United States through Image Entertainment Company. The Movie Plot

The movie is about the life of a former race car driver and American expatriate Peter Roberts (Thomas Jane), who has retired from car racing at his wife's urging. He secures a job as a driving instructor, where he teaches driving lessons with the hope of opening his racing school.

Things are not all rosy, as Roberts faces challenges, including affording private tuition for his daughter. But as fate has it, Roberts meets Keller (John Cusack), an odd and eccentric American in need of a driving lesson. His new client claims he has investigated all his finances and personal life.

Roberts is restless and insists on ending the lesson, but Keller urges him to stop at the bank. However, this is all a well-curated ploy in Keller's playbook, where he intends to use Roberts as his getaway driver after a bank heist.

As Keller exits the bank after robbing millions of dollars, he opens fire on the guards and attracts the attention of the police. Roberts protests the idea of being a getaway driver and attempts to surrender to the police. To his disbelief, the police open fire on him, too.

He now has no option but to fall back into Keller's plan. The two drive off and evade the police. Throughout this time, Roberts is panicked and constantly blames Keller for all that's happening. But Keller offers to share part of the loot, which he says will be of much help in helping Roberts's financial situation.

Roberts's plans to turn himself in later suffer a blow after the two realize they are being followed by local police, the Feds, and a few contract killers hired by a criminal syndicate. Keller further discloses to Roberts that they only face the danger of hired killers as the bank he robbed is managed by a criminal trust with connections to the local police.

The entire film is built around nostalgia with some fantasy. It depicts two men from different worlds who must do all it takes to save their lives. Drive Hard knows what kind of action fantasy the audience is up for. And it doesn't shy away from delivering just that. The action is lifeless, and the humor is purely non-existent for a mature audience.

The plot also tests the audience's patience as the characters they pity don't seem to care about themselves. Besides, it also puts the incredible Australian landscapes on display for enthusiast travelers seeking to try the Australian Gold Coast. Cusack's concealed emotions and Thomas's strange persona add more fun and humor to this film.

While many reviews condemn the movie's plot and supposedly horrible acting, there are still many positives to take home. For instance, the technical aspects of the film are pretty good.
