MEDIA APPEARANCE: David Ehrlich's IndieWire Critics Survey on August 27, 2018
Notable and notorious IndieWire film critic David Ehrlich recently put out a social media call for film critic peers to join a weekly survey to discuss movie topics, answer questions, and highlight their work. Representing Every Movie Has a Lesson, I, along with over 60 other emerging and established film critics including some of my fellow Chicago Independent Film Critics Circle members, accepted the invitation to participate. I'm honored by the opportunity, and I hope my responses are chosen each week.
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: What was the best movie of the 2018 summer movie season?
The end of August brings the annual summer box office season to a close. In my humble opinion, outside of a good crop of stellar indies, one hit documentary, and Avengers: Infinity War, this has been a very weak summer compared to others in recent memory which produce several big hits. As for my pick for David Ehrlich's survey, I join my Feelin' Film podcast buddy Aaron White on page 2 in putting over Aneesh Chaganty's Searching as the best movie of the summer. I've been high on it since the 6th Chicago Critics Film Festival and it remains my #1 film of the year so far. Second and third places for this question would have been Won't You Be My Neighbor and Eighth Grade
