This marks a triumphant return to Star Wars content coverage for Ian Simmons of the Kicking the Seat podcast and YouTube channel. The Book of Boba Fett didn’t go over so well. Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor have come and gone. Season 3 of The Mandalorian bring back Ian and “Earth’s Mightiest Critics” to the exploits of our favorite babysitting gunslinger. Enjoy Ian, myself, Mike Crowley of You’ll Probably Agree, David Fowlie of Keeping It Reel, and Jeff York of The Establishing Shot talking all things The Mandalorian.
Read MoreLet the record show that Ian Simmons of the Kicking the Seat podcast and YouTube channel is not a cocaine user… at least that we know of! However, we’ve got a hot new movie where a black bear in Georgia can’t get enough of the great Nose Candy. History had that bear ingest 75 pounds of coke. Audiences get to ingest far more pounds of Ian and “Earth’s Mightiest Critics” to talk about Cocaine Bear. Enjoy Ian, myself, Mark Krawczyk of Special Mark Productions, David Fowlie of Keeping It Reel, and Jeff York of The Establishing Shot snorting and chortling hard for Cocaine Bear.

As many of you loyal followers may know, friend-of-the-page Ian Simmons of the Kicking the Seat podcast and YouTube channel has been on a year-long moratorium from comic book movies and shows. It has spanned since last May with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. At many times since then, I can’t blame him and envy him. His one caveat was watching things his son wanted to watch. That’s what brings him to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Oh, the woes of being a good parent and a cool dad!
Read MoreJ.B. Huffman is a voracious movie fan who has a temperament for examining and celebrating all forms of masculinity. As a fellow father, those stories and archetypes grab him the most to the point where he decided to make a podcast series dedicated to the movies that hit us dads. Welcome to Manly Movies! Like all good men, he doesn’t do anything half-ass. I was honored to participate as J.B.’s guest to share our Top 10 lists of the manliest movies of 2022.
Read MoreWhile not all of us on the dais look like Gloria Stuart who said, “It’s been 84 years…” in James Cameron’s Titanic, it has been a long 13 years since the 3D watershed of Avatar. Ian Simmons of the Kicking the Seat podcast and YouTube channel gathered myself, David Fowlie of Keeping It Reel, Mark Krawczyk of Special Mark Productions, and Jeff York of The Establishing Shot to discuss the hotly anticipated sequel and holiday hitter Avatar: The Way of Water. We sure talked until a few of us were blue in the face (and tardy from technical difficulties as I was).
Read MoreThis week, I was honored to be invited as a guest on the Cinema Royale podcast presented by Punch Drunk Critics hosted by Travis Hopson. The Washington, D.C.-based film critic and site founder is a fellow member of the Critics Choice Association. I had the distinct pleasure to talk to Travis (on the road, so to speak, at my school library during a break period) about Damien Chazelle’s Babylon. Even in a quick conversation, we found the movie to be a bottomless pit of style and talking points.

As a fellow father, those stories and archetypes grab him the most to the point where he decided to make a podcast series dedicated to the movies that hit us dads. Welcome to Manly Movies! Read MoreBoth Ian Simmons of the Kicking the Seat podcast and YouTube channel and I have been lucky enough to be enjoying the fruits of Warner Bros. Home Entertainment. The two of us are on the press list to receive advance copies of the studio’s new disc releases. That physical media parade will include new films and classic titles arriving on 4K for the first time. Ian called me in to celebrate the latter for, as fate would have it, my all-time favorite movie: CASABLANCA! Arriving for the first time on 4K, it was easy to gush about a movie I adore that much!
Read MoreIan Simmons of the Kicking the Seat podcast and YouTube channel recently celebrated his 800th show and I was lucky enough to be invited to join the party. Also flanked by Ian’s longtime top wingman David Fowlie of Keeping it Reel and Mark Krawczyk of Special Mark Productions, Ian picked a special movie for the occasion, a film he calls straightaway his favorite of 2022 so far: Netflix’s international smash hit action film RRR. The appreciation for both the movie and all things Kicking the Seat was shared across the roundtable and by, what turned out to be, thousands of streaming views.
Read MoreThree months and change into a year-long commitment of abstaining from new comic book films and TV shows, Ian Simmons of the Kicking the Seat podcast and YouTube channel has arrived at moment of his one called-in-advanced exception. With Warner Bros.’s DC League of Super-Pets, he’s doing it for the kids. Ian earmarked this animated comedy to be his youngest son’s first ever trip to a movie theater and, boy, did he pick a winner. Ian’s enlisted buddies of “Earth’s Mightiest Critics” gather to celebrate the film and future milestone.

Earlier this year, he invited me to contribute to his new book "The Inspiring World of Horror: The Movies That Influenced Generations," collecting formative horror film experiences from writers, creators, and fellow critics. I was greatly honored by the invitation and did my best to give him a solid story. I've got a section in there celebrating the original Candyman. Horror movie afficionados, grab it for your Kindle and support a good author! It’s quickly become a best seller!
