With Christmas just a week away, and excitment building around the country, a new study reveals that Elf is America’s most Googled Christmas movie. 

Pennsylvania gambling experts PlayPennsylvania.com used Google Keyword Planner to analyze the search volume data for the U.S. between November 2023 and November 2024 for 93 popular Christmas movies. An average monthly search volume was calculated for each movie to rank America’s most Googled Christmas movies. 

The 10 most Googled Christmas movies in America 2024 

Starring Will Ferrell, Elf from 2003 is America’s most Googled Christmas movie, with 275,589 monthly searches on average. 

Dating back to 1946, It’s a Wonderful Life is in second place, with 213,701 Google searches on average per month across the U.S. 

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation from 1989 ranks third, with 182,374 monthly searches on average. 

The Nightmare Before Christmas from 1993 places fourth, with 142,456 searches per month on average. 

From the same year, Bad Santa is in fifth place, with an average of 133,278 Google searches across the states every month. 

Four Christmases from 2008 is the sixth most Googled Christmas movie, with 107,346 searches on average each month. 

In seventh place is the 1996 movie Jingle All the Way, with 103,445 searches per month on average. 

Next in eighth is the 2000 movie How the Grinch Stole Christmas, with 97,229 monthly Google searches on average. 

Grumpy Old Men ranks ninth, with the 1993 movie averaging 91,474 searches every month. 

Completing America’s most Googled Christmas movies is The Family Stone from 2005, with 90,360 searches on average per month.

Methodology: 

1. A list of 93 popular Christmas movies was created. 

2. Google Keyword Planner was used to retrieve the search volume data for each movie on a national level for the past 12 months. Searches for titles with multiple meanings were excluded from the analysis.

3. A monthly average search volume for each movie was calculated.
