3 Films With Large and Glamorous Diamonds

by Kevin Faber

As Marilyn Monroe so wisely said, diamonds are a girl's best friend. Diamonds are also, in many cases, intriguing movie plot points. After all, this stone is one of the most sought-after sources of glamor in the world. This creates high stakes for any film that revolves around such a gem. If you'd like to experience these stakes, here are three films with large and glamorous diamonds.

1. The Pink Panther

If you're looking for a movie about diamonds, look no further than The Pink Panther. The movie's diamond is literally in the title! Not only does this body of films showcase an enormity of large diamonds, but there are also several options to choose from. If you want to watch a blockbuster film with modern humor, you can check out Steve Martin's version. This series is full of jokes, action and beautiful pink diamonds. On the other hand, if you're willing to watch an older series, you can't go wrong with the Peter Sellers films. This group of movies is absolutely hilarious! Sure, the famously inept Inspector Clouseau is only a side character in the first film, but he steals every scene he's in. There are also ten whole movies in the original series. This gives you a wide range of characters, jokes and, of course, diamonds. You can see anything from a floating Quasimodo (yes, that happens) to a yellow diamond!

2. Looney Tunes: Back In Action

If your kids want to get in on the fun (or if you're a kid at heart), Looney Tunes: Back In Action is a great option! Similar to Who Framed Roger Rabbit, this movie is a mixture between live actors and cartoon characters. Because of this, the huge blue diamond featured in the movie goes between reality and animation. You get two different diamonds for the price of one! Like any good diamond-based movie, Back In Action is centered on a heist. The main character, played by the incomparable Brendan Frasier, finds out that his movie star dad is a super spy. Not only that, but an evil corporation has kidnapped said super spy dad (who, funnily enough, is played by former Bond Timothy Dalton). So, with the help of Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck, Frasier has to complete his father's quest and obtain the "Blue Monkey". Of course, this diamond is no regular diamond. After all, this is Looney Tunes! This movie is a fun ride and a must-watch for any young diamond fans.

3. To Catch a Thief

If you're in the mood for a classic romance with intrigue, heists and (of course) diamonds, look no further than To Catch a Thief. While Alfred Hitchcock is known for horror and thriller movies, such as Psycho and The Birds, he also created several mystery films. This movie is one of his better-known entries in the genre, and it truly stands the test of time. To Catch a Thief centers around a former thief named John Robie (played by the always charming Cary Grant. When a series of diamonds are stolen, the police suspect Robie. Therefore, Robie needs to find the actual thief in order to clear his name. Along the way, he meets the wealthy and beautiful Frances (played by the iconic Grace Kelly). Throughout the entire film, the audience is never sure who to trust. This only worsens when it becomes clear that the thief is someone Robie knows. Half of the fun for audiences is trying to guess the mystery!

There are a multitude of diamond-based movies to check out! Search for options, settle down with a loved one and enjoy watching a beautiful diamond onscreen.
