What Celebrities Teach Us About Facing the Fear of Failure
Oh, failure. The big, scary F-word that makes people break into a cold sweat. When it comes to starting something new? Well, it’s terrifying, right? Risking embarrassment? Absolutely not. But celebrities? Nah, they don’t worry about that, instead, they’re focused on their health, skin, and hair, right?
Well, no, sure, their appearance is considered, but it’s not really the only thing either. Instead, they stare failure in the face daily, and often with the entire world watching. Somehow, they don’t let it stop them. Instead, they thrive. So, if the stars can overcome the fear of failure, why can’t everyone else?
Starting Something New Doesn’t Have to Be Perfect
Needless to say, everyone’s afraid of the unknown. But for celebrities, taking the plunge into something new is part of the deal. Just imagine standing in front of a panel of casting directors, singing your heart out at an audition, or playing in an empty room hoping someone cares enough to listen. That’s how countless stars got their start.
The thing is, they do it anyway. They show up, they risk rejection, and they often fail, repeatedly. But they also understand that you can’t succeed without starting. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to begin.
When One Career Ends, Another Can Start
Sure, the idea of a career-ending can feel like a full-stop moment. But for celebrities, though, it’s often just the beginning of something new. (well, to a degree and it takes a while to reach a new status or career). Just take a look at Clive Davis for example/ After a career hiccup, he didn’t crawl into a hole and disappear.
Instead, he reinvented himself, launching Arista Records and signing some of the most iconic artists of all time. He, and so many others, are wonderful examples that an ending to one thing doesn’t inherently mean failure. Rather, it just might mean you’re pivoting, that’s all.
Mistakes Aren’t the End of the World
If anyone knows how to make mistakes on a massive scale, it’s celebrities. When you make a mistake, millions won’t find out, but for them, it’s the opposite. That idea alone is terrifying, right? For example, it could be box-office flops to dodgy live performances, the public gets a front-row seat to their blunders. But here’s the thing, they don’t quit because of one bad day. Most celebrities move past them, and so can anyone else. A mistake doesn’t mean the end; it means you’re trying.
Embarrassment Is Temporary
So, just go ahead and imagine falling flat on your face on stage in front of thousands of fans, or millions if it ends up on social media. Celebrities deal with moments like this all the time. Embarrassing? Absolutely. Career-ending? Well, hardly. They brush it off and move on, so it’s something you’ll need to learn to do as well.
Judgment Is Just Noise
Judgment is unavoidable. People have opinions about everything, and celebrities know this better than anyone. It can be their outfits to their career choices, everything is up for critique. But instead of shrinking under the weight of it all, they keep going.
Yes, by all means, it's so tough, and it doesn’t help nowadays that people now randomly film strangers and put it on TikTok, but just try and ignore it all, it’s noise, they don’t matter.
