4 Must-Watch Wedding Movies

by Kevin Gardner

Whether you're in the midst of an engagement or simply in the mood for romance, watching a wedding movie can be very enticing. If you're wondering what to watch, here are four must-watch wedding movies.

1. Mamma Mia

If you're looking for a wedding movie that will make you laugh, cry, scream and belt out classic pop songs, look no further than Mamma Mia. If you haven't seen this movie or its fairly enjoyable sequel, you'll want to fix that immediately!

Mamma Mia revolves around the wedding of Sophie and Sky. Sophie and her mom, Donna, live on a beautiful Greek island where they run a hotel. Unfortunately for the young bride, she has no idea who her father is. Sophie tries to change this when she finds the name of three contenders. She invites them to the wedding and, of course, chaos ensues.

While this might not be the most perfect wedding, its message of love and breathtaking ceremonial aesthetics are perfect for any newlywed. Not to mention the music! The movie is based on a jukebox musical that utilizes songs from none other than ABBA. Because of this, it's nearly impossible to resist singing along. Above all, this movie screams weddings. By the time "Waterloo" starts playing (right before the credits), you'll certainly have engagement rings on your mind.

2. Meet The Fockers

Meet The Fockers, unlike Mamma Mia, is practically nothing but chaos and stress. However, it provides a painfully and hilariously relatable look at wedding issues. If you've ever dealt or are dealing with familial drama at a wedding, you're almost sure to enjoy this crazy movie.

Meet The Fockers is the middle film in a trilogy of comedies. This movie revolves around Greg and Pam. These two, being close to the wedding, decide to bring both families together. Unfortunately, these two families couldn't be more different. This results in extreme misunderstandings, intense spying and animals being flushed down a toilet.

If you're looking for a movie to watch in the midst of wedding nerves, this might not be the best option. However, this is absolutely perfect for a honeymoon watch or even coming up to the ceremony. Just lather on some shea butter shave cream, break out the champagne and enjoy laughing like crazy!

3. Love Actually

Love Actually is an iconic story of love in several different relationships. Because of this, it's pretty much perfect for anyone looking for romance. This movie follows many different people, all of which are experiencing different aspects of a relationship. One of these couples (which includes a stunning Kiera Knightley) gets married in the beginning. While there aren't any other weddings, there are a couple of proposals and a lot of love.

The wedding scene is absolutely adorable, especially when the surprise performance starts. Also, perhaps the most romantic storyline results in a tear-jerking proposal. Therefore, if you're looking for an easy and extremely romantic watch, Love Actually is an excellent pick!

Upon watching this movie, your wedding excitement will grow, encouraging you not to miss any moment. From walking down the aisle to saying your ‘I do’s,’ every scene must be preserved. So, ensure you hire a professional Vancouver wedding videographer or one in your area to capture all your wedding moments.

4. Ready Or Not

Ready Or Not isn't a movie that one would generally define as a "feel-good wedding flick". However, it's an entertaining and shocking film that does, in fact, revolve around a wedding. This movie is especially perfect for newlywed horror lovers!

Ready Or Not revolves around Grace, a woman marrying into a scarily rich family. She finds herself being forced into playing a game after her wedding. When she ends up randomly picking hide and seek, she is plunged into a murder-filled nightmare. While still in her Grace Kelly-esque wedding dress, she's forced to fight for her life.

Sure, Ready Or Not doesn't make marriage look great. Despite this, it stars a strong bride who's holding her own in a wedding dress. What's not to love?

These films often inspire romantic feelings and provide entertainment through humor, drama, and heartwarming moments. Wedding movies offer a form of escapism, transporting viewers into a world of fantasy and fairy tales and providing a break from the demands of daily life. Watching such films with a partner or friends can be a bonding experience, fostering shared laughter and discussions about love and relationships.

Rom-coms and wedding movies also prompt reflection on relationships, values, and aspirations. They can inspire aesthetically, showcasing stunning cinematography, beautiful settings, and elaborate ceremonies. These movies' positive and happy endings can contribute to an overall sense of positivity and optimism.

Moreover, for those interested in cultural diversity, wedding movies from different cultures provide insight into various traditions and customs. For individuals who have already experienced their weddings, these movies can evoke nostalgia and allow them to relive the joy and excitement of their special day. So, what wedding movies can you recommend?

Wedding movies are extremely fun, especially when you're in the mood for romance. Pick an option and enjoy your movie night!
