List Of Top Movies That Popularized Cannabis And CBD

The cannabis industry is a lot bigger than it used to be. It’s all thanks to shifting public opinion on the plant as well as the strengthened support from congress. Of course, it’s hard to talk about the factors that helped popularize cannabis without talking about the impact of pot culture.

From Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong to Seth Rogen and Pete Davidson, there have been countless stars who are advocates of cannabis. It’s thanks to their acting repertoire and skills that people have become more accepting of cannabis as well.

There have been many great movies that helped popularize marijuana over the last couple of decades. However, it’s these films that are truly standouts in making us accept not just cannabis, but also CBD even more.

CBD Nation

CBD or cannabidiol is the naturally occurring compound that’s found inside cannabis. It’s been said to provide cannabis with almost all of the health benefits that it boasts. True enough, the CBD industry has become just as strong as the cannabis industry itself.

One of the films that helped people fully grasp the importance of CBD in the lives of others is the 2020 film, CBD Nation. The film follows the stories of several patients and how CBD became a crucial part of their lives. The film isn’t just an exploration of CBD as a health supplement, it also dove deep into the science behind the compound.

It’s a film that those who remain skeptical of CBD should watch. By the end of this film, they might finally realize why it’s important to have wholesale CBD providers do what they do best. It’s a good exploratory film as to why more people and more governments need to reconsider their stance on CBD. Although CBD is more accepted in today’s society, films like CBD Nation can help deepen the general public’s understanding of the industry.

Weed

Weed is a four-part documentary helmed by CNN’s Doctor Sanjay Gupta. It explores the growing weed culture in America around 2014. It’s not just a look into the community of marijuana, it’s also a look into the people that fight for marijuana and why they do so.

In the documentary, Dr. Gupta meets Charlotte Figi - a young man who suffers from a rare epilepsy condition. At a young age, he has become an advocate of CBD because it’s one of the primary supplements he uses to treat the condition.

Sadly, Fiji died last year. However, the state of Colorado continues to honor him by making April 7, Charlotte Figi Day. The new holiday is an ode to Figi’s fight for CBD rights and it is also a testament to his strong will as one of the pioneers of CBD.

Harold And Kumar Go To White Castle

Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle is a film about two stone buddies who set out to go to White Castle. While simple, the film received massive praise due to its amazing humor and due to the fact that two Asian-Americans were pegged as the star of the film.

The film also launched at a pivotal point in time where discussions about marijuana were becoming more common in congress. The film helped people ease into the idea that marijuana isn’t as bad as what other people make it out to be. Despite being your run-of-the-mill stoner buddy films, it was far from having your standard cringe-worthy tropes found in the genre.

American Hemp

Since being passed in 2018, the Farm Bill has helped push the local hemp industry in the US. American Hemp gave people a look at the budding industry and how it has changed the lives of farmers nationwide. It’s a good look as to how cannabis legalization benefits not just the consumers, but also the livelihood of farmers nationwide.

Another good aspect of the film is how it showed the life cycle of hemp. This includes a look at how each part of hemp is fully utilized by the industry from its fibers to its oil which is used by CBD companies.

Up In Smoke

This 1978 classic is often considered as the ultimate weed buddy film and it stars none other than the mainstream weed advocate pioneers, Tommy Chong and Cheech Marin. It’s also the first feature film of the duo. It was historic for many reasons and one of which is the fact that the film grossed over $44 million on the box office even if it was made with a budget under a million.

The premise of the film itself is simple, it’s a day in the life of Cheech and Chong as they set out to find their new stock of weed. It was a daring film at the time but thanks to it, more film companies saw the merits in creating movies about the cannabis industry which was highly scrutinized at the time.

One can say that it’s Up In Smoke that launched the duo to stardom. From there, the rest is history as Cheech and Chong became the pot icon for decades.

American Hemp: The Evolution Continues

American Hemp was a huge success for Amazon. So much so that they created a spin-off titled American Hemp: The Evolution Continues. The spin-off continued to take a look at the exploits of the people who succeeded after the Farm Bill was implemented.

This time, however, the sequel primarily focused on the CBD industry and how it benefited from the more lenient regulations with hemp farming. It helped people see exactly how far the hemp and CBD industry has come. Of course, it also gave us a taste of what the future holds for the industry.

The cannabis and CBD industry has certainly come a long way. While we can’t tell what the future holds, what we can certainly say is that the horizon looks bright for the industry. People are hoping that more pot films will be released in the future. Not just humorous ones, but also ones that dive deeper into how the industry affects the lives of many.
