Do you fancy a game of “Roulette?” To play this classic game, you need to know the roulette rules. We have summarized them for you so that no misunderstandings arise during the game.

How the Game Looks

A roulette table, be it in a land-based casino or the best online casino for Canadian players, is usually kept simple. At one end of the table is the roulette wheel and in the middle is a tableau with markings, which is used to place the bets. On the roulette wheel are different small diamond-shaped obstacles (the so-called cuvettes) on the edge and further down there are 37 small compartments, just big enough for the ball.

These compartments are alternately colored red and black, but the number 0 (or 00 in American Roulette) is colored green. There is a specific order for the numbers in the cuvette, but they are not ordered by size.

The Rules of Classic Roulette

Roulette players have the goal to guess in which slot the roulette ball will land. Betting on number fields begins even before the game leader - the dealer or croupière - throws the ball into the kettle. With the words ‘Make your game!’ (or in French: “Faites vos jeux!), the dealer asks all players to place their bets. These are placed with so-called chips. The betting can be done by the players themselves, or they can ask the dealer to do it.

The dealer staff always uses a small rake (rateau) to move betting chips around the field. They then also announce loudly what and how much has been bet on which fields.

The Game Begins

As soon as enough bets have been placed, the dealer makes the roulette wheel rotate and throws the ball into it. As long as the ball is still in motion, further bets can be placed. If the dealer announces ‘No more bets!’ (originally: “Rien ne va plus”).

Where the ball comes to rest is unpredictable and for all of the 37 numbers, the probability of the ball falling on them is the same. So all players have the same chances of winning.

When the ball finally comes to rest in one of the numbered compartments in the kettle, the dealer loudly announces its number and also mentions the color of the compartment and the other easy chances.

Moreover, the rake is used to first point to the winning number and then to collect the chips of those who have lost. After that, all the chances related to the winning number are calculated and paid out, and a new round begins. Those who correctly bet on one of thenumbers or one of the combinations will win a multiple of the stake.

Bets and Bet Types

The game bets there are marked fields with the numbers from 0 to 36. From 1 to 36 the numbers are arranged in rows of three. On the side of the table of numbers, there are more betting fields.

Usually, the types of bets in roulette are divided into single and multiple chances. The designation refers to the payout odds, which for single odds is 1:1.

In the case of single odds, you can win at most the sum of your bet, and in the case of multiple odds, you can win a multiple of your bet.
